Climate Action and Sustainable Growth

Australia’s Green Future – A Comprehensive Climate Action Plan

Climate Action

Australia’s Green Future

Climate change is already reshaping lives in Australia. From devastating bushfires and floods to rising sea levels and ecosystem loss, the need for bold, urgent action is clear. Australia’s Green Future is our roadmap to a clean economy, resilient communities, and a safer planet — while creating jobs and lowering costs for everyday Australians.

This fully costed, 10-year plan lays the foundation for a just transition to net-zero emissions by 2050, powered by investment, innovation, and fairness.

Our Plan Includes:

1. Accelerating Renewable Energy
  • Launch a $20 billion Renewable Energy Investment Fund (REIF) to drive large-scale solar, wind, and hydro projects
  • Invest $3 billion in community-owned renewable energy in regional and rural areas
  • Funded by a Carbon Emissions Levy on major polluters and the closure of fossil fuel subsidies
2. Cutting Household and Business Energy Costs
  • Implement a $10 billion Energy Efficiency Retrofit Program for homes and small businesses
  • Rebates and no-interest loans for solar panels, heat pumps, and energy-efficient appliances
  • Mandatory green building standards by 2025 for all new developments
  • Result: Average household and business energy bills cut by 25–30%

3. Phasing Out Fossil Fuels
  • Ban new coal and gas projects immediately
  • Cut fossil fuel production by 25% by 2030, reaching zero by 2050
  • Establish a $5 billion Just Transition Fund for retraining, early retirement, and job placement
  • End all fossil fuel subsidies, redirecting $10 billion into clean energy and transport

4. Protecting and Restoring Ecosystems
  • Launch a National Reforestation and Conservation Program to plant 5 billion trees by 2035
  • Expand protected areas and restore degraded forests, wetlands, and coastlines
  • Partner with Indigenous and farming communities through a Carbon Farming Initiative
  • Funded through carbon offset revenues from businesses

5. Creating 500,000 Green Jobs
  • Launch a Green Jobs Guarantee program across renewable energy, public transport, sustainable agriculture, and conservation
  • Invest $15 billion to train and place workers in the clean economy
  • Funded by a Green Bonds Program and public investment

6. Building Climate Resilience
  • Establish a $7 billion Climate Resilience Fund to help communities prepare for bushfires, floods, and drought
  • Grants for local councils to implement climate-smart infrastructure, firebreaks, levees, and drought-resistant agriculture
  • Funded through a progressive carbon tax and climate adaptation bonds

7. Transitioning to Clean Transport
  • Invest $2.5 billion in electric vehicle (EV) subsidies and national charging infrastructure
  • Offer rebates up to $7,500 for EV purchases
  • Goal: 50% of new cars sold to be electric by 2030
  • Funded through Fuel Excise Reform, shifting support away from fossil fuel vehicles

The Impact
  •  45% emissions cut by 2030, with net-zero by 2050
  •  500,000 new green jobs across energy, transport, and land care
  •  $25–30 billion annual economic boost through clean industries
  • Lower household energy bills through energy efficiency upgrades
  •  Cleaner air and water, reducing respiratory illness and saving lives
  •  Safer communities better prepared for natural disasters
  •  Stronger ecosystems and biodiversity protections for future generations

Australia’s Green Future is our national plan for climate leadership and economic renewal. It delivers the emissions cuts we need, the jobs our communities want, and the clean energy future our planet demands — all while making sure no one is left behind.
