Justice Beyond Borders

Enforcing International Law, Championing a Unified Democratic Palestine, and Defending Human Rights Everywhere

A Commitment to Our Local and International Community

Introduction

Australia has a moral and legal duty to stand for justice, equality, and human rights across the globe. Our foreign policy must reflect the values we hold dear at home: freedom, democracy, and dignity for all.

Advocate for Global Justice: Ziad will push for Australia to re-evaluate its international alliances, particularly regarding military ties with nations involved in human rights violations. His goal is to ensure that Australia’s foreign policy reflects a commitment to justice and human rights.

Strengthen Local Human Rights Protections: In Watson, Ziad will work to strengthen anti-discrimination laws and ensure that every resident has access to legal representation. This includes advocating for more funding for legal aid services and implementing community programs aimed at reducing discrimination.

Support for Palestine: Ziad’s commitment to justice for Palestine is a core part of his campaign. He will continue to speak out against the injustices faced by the Palestinian people and push for Australia to take a leadership role in advocating for their rights on the international stage.

Key Issues

Global Justice: Ziad is deeply concerned about the atrocities happening in Gaza, Palestine. He believes that Australia must take a firm stand against what the International Criminal Court has called a “plausible genocide.” Ziad’s commitment to justice extends beyond borders, advocating for an end to military ties with Israel and pushing for stronger international human rights standards.

Local Advocacy: Human rights issues aren’t just global—they affect us here in Watson. Ziad is dedicated to ensuring that every resident, regardless of their background, is treated with dignity and respect. His focus includes addressing discrimination, improving access to legal representation, and supporting those who are most vulnerable in our community.

The Facts

  • Human Rights Violations: The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in over 40,000 lives lost. Ziad believes Australia must take a stronger stance on these issues to align with international human rights standards.
  • Discrimination in Watson: 30% of Watson residents report experiencing some form of discrimination, underscoring the need for stronger local human rights protections.
  • Legal Representation: 20% of Watson residents are unable to afford adequate legal representation, leaving them vulnerable to injustices.

Dr Ziad Basyouny's Policy

1. Advocating for a Unified Democratic State in Historic Palestine
  • We reject apartheid, racism, and ethno-nationalism in all forms. Australia will support the creation of a single, democratic, and religiously pluralist state from the river to the sea, where Palestinians and Jews live as equal citizens with full civil and political rights.
  • Refugee Return & Reparations: We affirm the right of return for displaced Palestinian refugees and support reparations for decades of injustice.
  • End Genocide Rewards: No state should be rewarded for apartheid or ethnic cleansing. Just as apartheid was dismantled in South Africa, it must be dismantled in historic Palestine.
  • Justice through the ICC: Australia will support international prosecutions of war criminals and use its voice to uphold the rule of law without fear or favour.
2. Enforcing International Law Against Crimes in Palestine
  • Enough impunity. Australia will implement targeted sanctions on individuals and companies complicit in human rights violations in historic Palestine, including those supporting illegal occupation, settlements, or war crimes.
  • Accountability Measures: Citizens who commit war crimes will face prosecution.
  • Supply Chain Sanctions: We will disrupt the flow of goods and services that sustain apartheid systems.
3. Promoting Human Rights in Sudan, DRC, and Myanmar
  • From Darfur to Gaza, from Rakhine State to Kinshasa, Australia must stand with those fighting for life, dignity, and freedom.
  • Invest in diplomatic pressure and humanitarian support in conflict zones.
  • We will push for action at the UN, AU, and ASEAN, and support grassroots peace efforts on the ground.
4. Supporting Return, Reconciliation, and Justice

  • Support Palestinian refugees, helping rebuild lives with dignity.
  • We will work with international agencies to enforce refugee rights and support a just transition after the formation of a unified state.
5. Investing in Peace & Civil Society
  • Fund NGOs that foster reconciliation, coexistence, youth empowerment, and education in conflict zones, once conditions are safe.
  • True peace is built from the ground up, with communities leading the way.

The Stakes Are Global. The Time Is Now.

This is not just about Palestine — it’s about who we are as a nation.

By standing firm for international law, human rights, and equality, Australia can lead the way in building a world where dignity triumphs over division. We will no longer be silent in the face of genocide, apartheid, or war crimes — whether in the Middle East, Africa, or Southeast Asia.

This is a policy of courage, conscience, and compassion.

It’s time for Australia to choose justice.
